Like many of his fans, I apprehend the loss with a sense of awe. It’s as if a prominent planet of the night sky has vanished. I’ve read some moving tributes and appreciation amongst friends on Facebook, commenters on Chris O’Leary’s blog, and the Bowie Wonderworld message board. The outpouring of grief, love and respect is huge. On Tuesday I stood numbly in Costcutter at the racks of national newspapers from every front page Bowie’s image gazed like a sphinx. The Halloween Jack is a real cool cat. I listened to Diamond Dogs because a reliable source says it was always Bowie’s favourite of his albums.
